About boxing

Modern boxing has its origins in England, dated back to the 17th and 18th century.

In 1681, the first fight with proved written records has been organized. In 1743, the first major set of rules has been established. You were not allowed to hit an opponent who was lying on the floor and low blows were also forbidden. As of 1892, the Queensberry rules came into use. Only punches are allowed. The goal is not to destroy the opponent, but rather the knightly fight and the victory is the ambition of the fighters. Their virtues are restraint towards others, but harshness on oneself. The goal of boxing is the education to decent behaviour in sports competition. If made correctly, boxing develops character and personality, improves health and allows to defend oneself in a serious case against physical attacks. Beside the acquisition of a steeled body, boxing helps gaining self-awareness, self-control, courage, sobriety, determination, precise calculation, persistence, toughness and the never-give-up attitude.
